Jack's Runway

Every day is a fashion show with Jack.

This is the everyday look for Jack. No pants.

He loves to do his hair. Unfortunately cortisone cream doesn't work like pomade.

My shoes are a favorite. Jay's are way too big.

Mardi Gras beads given to him by a fan at the local thrift shop.

Jack loves his Yarmulke! Mazel Tov!

And lastly, my bra. Yep. Hot pink and push up. Jay about killed me for taking this picture. There are going to be repercussions for posting it :)

The Third Day

Today is what I call the dreaded "Third Day". Every time Jack gets sick, the third day is always the worst. The third day is when the exhaustion of no sleep for both of us manifests and both of our nerves are shot. I try and push fluids and he pushes me away and yells. He melts down at the little things and then I yell. The third day is never pretty at my house. However, this isn't the worst. The worst is when I get him down for his nap and my mind starts to wander to a happier place. My dream place......

I imagine that Jay and I have a lovely ranch somewhere like this.....

And that Jack stays outside, happy and content, playing in the hose all day like this....

And then I imagine THIS in chaps and mucky cowboy boots and then suddenly......

I imagine another one of these....

Which inevitably would bring many more third days and the vicious cycle begins again.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire

When we moved to Virginia everyone said, "Winter sure will be easier for you guys here! It never snows!". I wonder what else the Virginians are lying about :)

Talk is Cheap

Jack doesn't talk. He is perfectly happy in this little world of his without words. The Dr. attributes it to his need for speed.... "He is too busy for talking. He is more focused on throwing balls and climbing things. He will get to it eventually." How true. One of his only words is ball. However, he is probably one of the funniest people I've ever met. His personality is one of a kind. He makes me laugh almost to tears at least once a day.

The other morning I went to get him out of bed and found him completely and utterly naked. He had unzipped his pajamas, slid off his diaper and was as proud as could be. Since I force him to wear a diaper because he doesn't want to pee in the toilet yet, he likes to at least have some crack showing.

I hope you all have seen Happy Gilmore. You will really appreciate the first video :)

Best Idea EVER

Since I have a lot of unchecked boxes on my "Things to do before I turn 30" list, I decided that now is the time to start checking boxes. One of those things is to go to the Kentucky Derby. I just realized that I'm only about a 10 hour drive from said race.

So, my question is, who is coming with me?!?!?

I'm thinking a really fun girls trip, since Jay has no interest. You can fly into DC and drive out with me, or meet me in Louisville. General admission tickets for just standing are $40. Pretty cheap actually. However, if you don't have anywhere to sit, can you still wear a lovely hat?

I Believe I can Fly

Dear Mom and Dad,

I am less than pleased with the things you have taught me in my short life. Maybe you should help me get a grip on reality instead of letting me believe so many far-fetched ideas. Let me break it down for you...

Reindeer can fly. Harry Potter can fly. And based on Dad's teachings, Carmelo Anthony can fly. Why didn't you tell me that Rudolph doesn't exist, Harry Potter is a mythical wizard with an enchanted broom and Carmelo Anthony has a 41 inch vertical leap, not wings. This knowledge would have helped the other day when I tried to fly out of my crib. Instead of flying as expected, I landed on my forehead, got a really nasty bruise and nearly broke my neck.

I know that you love me, so please help me to learn what I am capable of and not capable of.

Love, Jack

P.S. Mom, thanks for the blankets and pillows you stacked on the floor by my crib just in case I try base jumping next.

Non-Traditional

I always thought that Jay and I were sort of the norm. We married in our 20's, had a baby a few years later, we live on a college student budget and we have a world of possibilities in front of us. On the east coast we are a bazaar sight. A total freak show, really. On average people in the DC area get married older than any other part of the country. We went to the zoo and all the couples around us with young babies were easily in their 40's....grey hair, driving Range Rovers and one baby is all they want. I'm not saying that isn't ok, just going from Utah to Alexandria was kind of a shocker. The moms at the park look at me like I'm some kind of irresponsible teenager :)

This will be our very first Christmas alone. We aren't traveling to see any family and no one is coming here. We are experiencing a whole new world of Christmas. As I go down our stairwell each day I hear Christmas music coming from each apartment. Our next door neighbors seem to love Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin Christmas songs. The neighbor below prefers a much harder mix for Christmas....I think it must be 50 cent and Nelly. And our Latin neighbors play Feliz Navidad about 700 times a day. I'm pretty sure our apartment is the only one playing Sarah McLachlan and Michael Buble :) Ha! So, to keep up with our new non-traditional status, we will be doing some different things for Christmas :) We are spending Christmas Eve with our friends, the Campbells, at a very fun Latin/Italian dinner :) And then Christmas Day we will enjoy a chili dinner with our friends the Turleys. It will be so different from spending Christmas with family, but that's the fun of experiencing new traditions and starting our own.

We hope everyone has a very Merry and unconventional Christmas!

Love Us.
