My Mom

My mom came to visit last week for 10 days. It was fabulous! This is the longest I've ever been away from my mom and I was really glad to see her. Unfortunately our weather was not great while she was here so we didn't get to do as much as I wanted, but we still had a great time. She got to see gorgeous Virginia in the spring and also got a taste of the city life. I don't think it is something she ever wants :)

Jack quickly attached himself to her and they became best buds.


We went to a cute little farm where Jack showed his Gram his love for animals. He also almost climbed all the way through the fence to get in with the lambs. Pretty sure that isn't allowed :)

Jay took Jack for the afternoon so my mom and I could go to Mount Vernon alone. It was lovely. George Washington really got a sweet spot on the Potomac. I think I should live there.


We went to a great little town called Occoquan. It is a super cute little town on the river full of shops and restaurants. It reminded me of Breckinridge, CO....made me a little homesick for CO :(

We had a great time with you mom! Hope you get to come back soon!

One Down!

Congratulations to my hot Jay!! One year of his master's program done today! We are so proud of him and so excited to get to spend some time together! No more papers!! Jay starts summer school in 2 weeks so he doesn't get much of a break, but we'll take what we can get :) You rock, babe. Enjoy your mini vacation!

Arbor Day

So, I have a confession. I don't think Arbor Day should be celebrated in Virginia. Really, I do love trees, but planting more? I think Arbor Day is great in states like New Mexico, or Utah or Arizona....you know, places that lack trees. But Virginia? Absolutely not. Too many trees here. Seriously, if I see someone planting a tree here on the 30th I'm going to have to get physical. It's just stupid. Send your tree money to a state that needs it or use it to transplant some of the stinking trees here to other places.

Jay just informed me that our blog is boring. There are too many pictures of Jack and most people don't really care about our kid that much. While this is true, they are all the pictures I have at the moment so you get another post on the Jackster. Hopefully my creative mind will think up something interesting, but for now, you get what you get :)

We spent Easter with Jami and Scott. They put on a mean Easter egg hunt and dinner, so please expect us again next year :)


Jack wasn't much into the collecting of eggs as he was eating everything out of the egg he found before searching for another one. At one point his mouth was so full of chocolate it wouldn't close.


Jack has decided that he is too cool to let me pick out his clothes. This is what he came up with the other day....

Happy Spring!!

I absolutely love spring. Luckily in VA it starts a little earlier than I'm used to! Wahoo!! We took Jack to a great farm where you can see all of the animals. Many of them have just had babies so we really had fun. Jack loved the baby pigs. I'm not going to lie, they were pretty cute, but I don't know if anything is cuter than a tiny black lamb.

I don't think you are supposed to pet the animals, but we did :) Lookin' good Jay :)

Out of all of the cute farm animals and fun things to see, Jack loved the turkeys. Many of you know that birds (any birds) really creep me out. They have weird little eyes and they just start flapping wings out of the blue. I just don't like them. Jack L.O.V.E.S birds. So we spent a good 10 minutes with the freaky turkeys.

Afterward, Jack had his very first Happy Meal!! He was thrilled with his very own drink and toy. Doesn't take much to please him :)

Jami and Scott came up to visit with their sweet new baby Mehkai. Jack loved that baby. He would just sit and stare and giggle. He started to throw a fit when I held Mehkai. I thought it was jealousy of the baby, but no, HE wanted to hold him. He held Mehkai for quite a while and was completely content. He needs a brother. All in due time, child.

This is Jack's new perch. He sits on the back of the toilet while I do my hair. I put in mousse and then he gets a little. I blow dry and he gets a little. I'm pretty sure it is his favorite part of the day. Hey, maybe he will be a hair stylist and then I can get all my haircuts for free!! :)


The thing about having a kid is that I don't get to lick the brownie spoon anymore, he does. Sad.

Do Bad Mothers Still Get A Mother's Day?

I have learned as a mother not to judge other mothers as quickly as I used to. Like when their child would have a meltdown in the grocery store and I would think, "Why can't she control him?", or the mother that loses her child at the park, or the kids with food all over their faces and messy hair.....I totally get it now.....and I'm hoping they judge me less as well. Especially today. Today was pretty much my worst day as a mom so far and I'm hoping that I never top it, but I'm sure I will. Here is the story....

Jack and I were at Target today picking up the essentials. It was pouring when we walked outside...thunder, lightning...the works. I quickly put him in the car so he didn't get soaked and continued to unload the stuff. He climbed up in the front seat to play with the lights. I got everything in the car, threw in my purse and shut the door. That is when I realized that Jack had my keys in his hands and had locked me out. My cell phone was inside also. I tried not to panic and motioned for Jack to unlock the door. He couldn't do it and eventually got his finger stuck in the door handle. He started to cry because he was stuck. Some black guys were near me dancing around their car to some rap music. I almost asked them if they knew how to break into my car but I didn't want to stereotype :) I saw a couple in the parking lot, ran over to them and asked if I could use their cell phone to call Jay. I got a hold of him after 3 tries and he said he was on his way. He was at the library and had to go home and get the extra keys and then drive up to Target. Anyway, I walked back to the car to stay with Jack while he cried and cried and still couldn't get his finger unstuck. A few people walked past and tried to help. One woman didn't speak any English and couldn't help at all so she just stood next to me and patted my shoulder every few minutes. After about half an hour Jay got there and unlocked my car. I opened the door slowly and got Jack's finger unstuck and then I pulled him out. I absolutely lost it at that point and just cried right along with him. So, even though I know they don't read my blog, thank you to the woman who was my silent support, thank you to the man that got a hanger out of his dry cleaning to give to another man that tried to break in to my car, and lastly thank you to Honda for making my car really hard to break into. I appreciate that on all other days besides today.

Sucker Punch

Today was beautiful so Jack and I decided to have a picnic at the park. He made friends with a cute little girl and they had so much fun playing together. The little girl picked up a huge pile of mulch and dumped it on Jack's head. Jack shook his head to get it off and then punched her in the face. Great. My son is a bully.
